John R. Lutzker
John R. Lutzker, Ph. D. is a Distinguished University Professor Emeritus, and was the Founding Director of the Mark Chaffin Center for Healthy Development in the School of Public Health at Georgia State University. Among his other professional positions, he was a Branch Chief in Violence Prevention at the CDC.
Dr. Lutzker has published over 187 articles and chapters, 9 books, has delivered over 496 international and national professional presentations, and is a Past-President of Division 33 of the American Psychological Association in which he is a Fellow in five Divisions.
Among the awards he has received are: Mark Chaffin Memorial Award, Prevent Child Abuse Georgia; Outstanding Research Career Award, American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children; Award for a Model Program in Service Delivery in Child and Family Mental Health, Section I, Division 12 of Clinical Psychology, Division of Child, Youth, and Family Services, American Psychological Association.
He is on the editorial boards of four professional journals. Among his media appearances he has been interviewed on NPR’s Morning Edition, ABC’s Good Morning America, and served as a consultant for 60 Minutes on CBS.
He is the Founder of SafeCare®, an evidence-based model for prevention and intervention of child maltreatment with a footprint in 30 U.S. states and 7 other countries. He has procured millions of dollars in sponsored and contracted funding during his career. His research interests are in parenting and the prevention of child abuse and neglect.
